THE SOUTH LINCS D.A. YOUTH SECTION REPORTS

Central Counties Winter Youth Rally

North Kilworth

11th - 13th January 2008

Everyone had arrived at an extremely wet and windy North Kilworth by 7.00pm on Friday 11 January for the Central Counties Winter Youth Rally.  All South Lincs Youth tents were up and the youth were in the hall by about 9pm to have burgers and chat, catch up with old friends and make new ones.  It was the first large youth rally for Kim.  The hall was tidied up and all youth sent back to their tents by midnight,  although we doubt very much that they all went to sleep then!!!

8am Saturday morning soon arrived and breakfast was served. The youth were all up bright and early and team leaders met at 9am for the draw for the winter sports – pool, darts, table skittles, and dominoes.

South Lincs had 4 lads and 5 young ladies there so two other DA’s asked if we could help them out.  Playing table skittles for South Lincs were Leighton and Louise, who were unfortunate to be knocked out in the first round.  As were Matthew and Izzy in the dominoes and Alyshia in the Girl's Pool competition.  Mark and Emma were teamed together for the darts competition and despite Emma never having played before they were the eventual winners of the darts.  Adam was volunteered to play in the Boy's Pool and became the Pool Boys champion.  Although Kim didn’t play for South Lincs, she did play for Leicester DA in the table skittles which she and her partner, Callum  become the table skittles champions.

Unfortunately, the winter sports trophy is awarded on a points system, and although South Lincs young people had won two of the competitions, they didn’t manage to get past the first round in the other competitions, so didn’t gain as many points as the eventual winners – North Warwickshire and we were runners up.  The lists are below of who played for whom and the points gained etc.

After lunch the coach arrived to take everyone to Coventry to the Megabowl.  All young people had 2 games of bowling which was enjoyed immensely.

On our arrival back at camp, our evening meal was ready – we could choose between chilli con carne, curry, pizza, baked potatoes, or pastie, mash and beans/peas.  This was followed by a variety of desserts.  How fortunate were we?

Our music was provided by North Warwickshire Youth Leaders and Adam from SLDA and Adam from Leicester DA provided some of the entertainment by dancing on the speakers!

It was 9am Sunday morning before the young people decided to start appearing for their breakfast – many had been up until about 4am chatting!

Our quiz team was made up of Mark, Matthew, Izzy and Alyshia.  22 questions and 15 minutes later the quiz was over and down to the marking while West Midlands DA, (our host for the weekend), gave a speech, thanking everyone for their hard work.  The answers to the quiz were called out and SLDA youth leaders managed to answer 16 correctly.  The winners of the quiz were – SOUTH LINCS!  Well done to everyone who took part.  While Larry Brown, as Central Counties Chairman, closed the meet, several of the youth leaders were outside trying to get off the field – see the photos in the CCY Gallery.

GREAT NEWS FROM THE SLDA YOUTH SECTION.

It is with great pleasure, (and a HUGE sigh of relief), that I have to announce that 3 young people – Adam, Mark and Alyshia - took and passed their youth test this weekend at Thorpe Camp.

It is the first time in 7 years that any South Lincs Youth have passed their youth test.  Our thanks to all concerned, Dave and Bernie for finding an area for the youth test, Harry and June Wilkinson, our Youth testers, and the parents for their support.

Adam, Mark and Alyshia will receive new membership cards stating that they have passed their youth test and their certificates and pennons are being sent to me for presentation,  either at Halloween meet or Christmas party meet.
